František Macho, founder of X Shift Gearboxes, is a Czech entrepreneur and mechanical engineering expert who specializes in the development and production of racing gearboxes. In 1999, he managed to enter the racing world and started designing and manufacturing gearboxes and differentials for racing cars that met the high demands for quality, shifting speed, durability and reliability.

In 2002, he co-founded KAPS Transmissions, which established itself as a major manufacturer of racing transmissions. In 2012, he founded CNC MACHO Ltd. which focused on manufacturing transmissions for Subaru, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Nissan for KAPS. After disagreements with his partners, in 2018 he decided to continue under his own brand, X Shift Gearboxes, which specialises in the development and manufacture of sequential gearboxes and accessories for various automotive brands including Subaru, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Toyota. Thanks to his expertise, experience and hard work, X Shift Gearboxes has established itself as a leading manufacturer of racing gearboxes that are used by racers around the world. The company focuses on continuous development and innovation to meet the growing demands of motorsport. The company currently has its own development centre, production hall, assembly workshop, warehouses and offices.

History

František Macho, owner of the X Shift Gearboxes, entered the racing industry to enrich it with his years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering. Beginnings are never easy, but the lack of racing gearboxes at that time was forcing drivers and race teams to seek out skilled engineers and machinists, who could design and manufacture gearboxes or differentials to their race cars, that would meet high requirements on quality, shifting speed with accuracy and endurance. After three years of designing and producing racing gearboxes for customers who were coming with their inquiries more and more frequently, the association KAPS Transmissions was estabilished by 2 companions. The brand was continously developing and ultimate achieved worldwide success.
In 2012, František Macho formed the company CNC MACHO s.r.o. to manufacture Subaru, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Nissan gearboxes for the KAPS Transmissions association, so that production could be under František Macho's control as he has always been leading the production and technological processes but up until then parts had been produced by cooperating companies. Since 2012, all parts have been manufactured by CNC MACHO s.r.o. After the first time the company's management thundered briefly and the other companion had decided to leave the association, KAPS Transmissions CZ s.r.o. was then estabilished of which František Macho is 50 % co-owner and everything was indicating a better future. The company CNC MACHO s.r.o. continued to produce gearboxes also for KAPS Transmissions CZ s.r.o. until 2018. Eventually, the companions did not reach consensus in the future direction of the company, therefore each of them went their separate ways.
The KAPS Transmissions brand has been declining due to the dispute. As František Macho was the one taking care of the production and development, he didn't want to say goodbye to his dream work. Therefore, he estabilished his own trademark X Shift Gearboxes, and started to focus only on his production company. X Shift gearboxes continues in production and sale of identical products which used to be produced in past for seller KAPS Transmissions CZ s.r.o. and also in development of new and upgraded products
Over the years, X Shift has grown and achieved many successes. As example can be mentioned design of Subaru +PLUS sequential gearbox, Mitsubishi EVO STRONG sequential gearbox and many other products. As a huge progress we consider overall grow of the company in terms of new machines and highly qualified employees to be able to cover higher production requirements. A huge benefit is that the company was lucky to have motorsport enthusiasts among all employees. This all allows us to cover high requirements on production and quality. Hundreds of racers run our gearboxes all around the world. We are successful in increasing production capacities by 20 % annually which currently makes production of tens of gearboxes monthly.
In 2022, X Shift team has developed first and unique sequential gearbox for Toyota GR Yaris, that became popular not only in the world of rally. Following the huge success with new gearbox, the company started to cooperate with Italian customers to support GR Yaris Rally Cup Italy, that take place under the auspices of Gazoo Racing Italy. After successful testing, X Shift became exclusive supplier of gearboxes for this GR Yaris Rally Cup Italy. Soon after achievements in Italy, the company established it's own rally series in Czech Republic. Toyota Yaris Cup Czech is part of the Czech Republic Rally Championship and is supported by Toyota Czech Republic
As the company constantly grows, the original building was no longer sufficient for all employees and manufacturing capacities. Hence, CEO František Macho invested in new administration building, which was finished in 2024. This move also made space in the original building to create own R&D workplace with controlling section in the form of 3D coordinate measuring machine, which is able to check all the crucial dimensions of the products. Thanks to these improvements, X Shift Gearboxes once again stepped up to another level and still push forward to become the best racing gearboxes manufacturer in the world.
